The Swedish Maritime and Transport Historical Museums (SMTM) has been awarded 'Sweden's Most Modern Authority 2023'.

The authority operates and develops the Maritime Museum, the Maritime Historical Museum, the Vasa Museum, the Wreck Museum, and the Railway Museum. About the Position

We need to temporarily expand our collection unit at the Maritime Museum in Karlskrona with a curator. In this role, you will work on organizing our storage and preparing for an upcoming move of the collection. The work includes reviewing previous collections, identifying objects, and participating in the assessment of what should be preserved by the museum. You will also catalog and register items in our database Primus. Much of the work will be carried out in one of our storage facilities.

Your Competence and Experience

You should have a bachelor's degree from the object conservation program or another education that we consider equivalent. You have good computer skills, digital maturity, and a good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing. Previous work experience with museum collections and working with a database at a museum or equivalent is an advantage. A B driver's license is desirable. We prefer candidates who are at the beginning of their museum career and want the opportunity to develop within the museum sector.

More About Us

The collection unit at the Maritime Museum belongs to the Form and Content department and is responsible for the museum's collections, which include objects, archival documents, and photographs that tell the history of the Swedish naval defense. The collections span from the 18th century to the present day and also include the museum's boats and ships, as well as a library focused on maritime history. The unit consists of 15 employees and is led by the unit manager.

Employment

Fixed-term employment for 6 months. Full-time. Daytime. Start date May 1, 2025.
